Another game, another blown lead. Again the Avalanche jumped out to a two-goal lead only to squander it as the game went on. Fortunately for the Avalanche this game had a different ending than their last two as the Avs came back to score three more goals and then sat back in the third (which, according to the Avs broadcast team is something they're being coached not to do... yeah... I don't believe that for a second) as the Flyers tried to press for a tie.
The game featured another penalty by David Koci, though this time the opposition didn't capitalize. It also featured some pretty extensive running of the goalie throughout the game, something the officials didn't do much to discourage. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't this be the point of having a guy like Koci in the lineup? Isn't he there to prevent the opposition from doing this? Joe Sacco just watched Koci take another penalty in his two and a half minutes of ice time and watched the opposing team ignore Koci's presence on the bench as they ran Anderson time after time. And yet I feel confident in saying that Koci will dress again for the next game. Utter foolishness.
Going back to the conversation with BeachNSnowGirl that I talked about in the last post, she mentioned there that she didn't see any problem with Liles as she watched this game. And I'm inclined to agree! This was probably his best game of the season at even strength. Sometimes it's funny how things work out.
The confrontation between Ian Laperriere and Cody McLeod was downright amusing. Laperriere really wanted to fight him for one reason or another and McLeod just resolutely refused with an "oh come on Lappy" expression on his face the whole time. It was hard to tell if it was the smug Maltby "oh come on" or genuinely heartfelt appreciation. Probably a bit of both.
For the Flyers, their bench was interesting. They have two big money defenders in Pronger and Timonen and it seems clear that the guy they're leaning on is Pronger. He played more minutes and he was assigned to the Stastny-Wolski paring throughout the evening. Timonen, meanwhile, played fewer minutes and drew the very much less challenging Duchene-Hejduk pairing. Now, both of these guys are great players but it seems to me that it will be difficult for the Flyers to keep their top four together going forward since Braydon Coburn will be demanding a raise. At this stage I'd imagine plan A is to move Matt Carle who's been paired with Pronger. But if the Flyers were forced to choose between Pronger and Timonen going forward, I'd bet they take Pronger.

Oilers v. Flyers - Romans 12:9-20
Dear Oilers, love must be sincere. Hate the Eastern Conference; cling to third period leads. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honour one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your head up, serving the Lord. Be joyful in winning, patient in losing, faithful in prayer. Remind the Flyers to share with God's people who are in need and to practice hospitality.
Dear Captain, take the number of those who persecute you; take their number and do not take an instigator penalty. Rejoice with rejoicing teammates; mourn with mourning teammates. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.
Dear Oilogospherians, do not repay a Flames fan evil for evil; instead let them see how much more honourable it is as an Oilogospherian. So far as it depends on you, cheer at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "I will take revenge; I will pay them back," says the Lord. On the contrary: "If a Flames fan is hungry, feed her; if she is thirsty, give her something to drink. But if he is hungry give him very salty popcorn; when he is thirsty, ask him if he would like one Cup of water or five Cups. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.
