Well it was bound to end sometime. You can't get outchanced 2:1 and expect to win games on a consistent basis. After Colorado scored their goal in the third period, I did begin to wonder if they were about to do it again, but San Jose quickly ended such speculation with an immediate response. Craig Anderson played a fantastic game yet again but after surviving a first period completely dominated by San Jose, the Avalanche weren't able to up their play enough in the last two periods to turn Anderson's performance into a victory.

There isn't too much to say that's positive for the Avalanche once you get past the goaltender but I did want to mention that over the last few games it's been a treat to watch Kyle Cumiskey skate. He still has a long way to go before he's an effective NHL defender but as a pure skater I'm not sure that there are too many players that are more fun to watch. I get excited when he goes back to pick up the puck and the opposition are using a one-man passive forecheck.

I've spoken frequently about the power play and how it looked much better earlier in the year with John-Michael Liles on the point. Tonight Liles returned and the power play did not look substantially better, though Liles looked his usual self at even strength. If he's not delivering on the power play he really isn't contributing anything and is probably actually making the team worse when he's in the lineup. Even when he's going well though, the Montreal Canadiens have a version of this player who signed for $750,000 after the start of the season.
